2020 exposed weak points in our society and today, our communities are calling on emerging leaders like you to strengthen them. Philanthropy Week is a UChicago tradition that gives you an opportunity to virtually connect with programs that are doing justice, philanthropy and equity work. Check out our lineup of events below. Sponsored by the Student Alumni Committee

All week, give any amount in support of your favorite cause, RSO or department on campus and you’ll receive this herb planter to start your own garden! We hope you consider supporting sustainability initiatives like Phoenix Farms or the Office of Sustainability. Learn more here.

Philanthropy Week ‘21 lineup

Mon 12

CITY CHATS WITH OCE + LOVE FRIDGE (7:00PM CT)

SAC is partnering with the University Community Service Center (UCSC) to host a City Chats program, in which members of the College community are invited to join virtual conversations with notable Chicagoans about their lives, careers, and Chicago journeys.  This chat will be with Ramon Norwood, cofounder of the Love Fridge.  The Love Fridge is a mutual aid group grounded in good, working to place community refrigerators across the city. This discussion will focus on food insecurity and philanthropy beyond money.

Wed 14

CHANGE MAKERS UNITE: AVIVA KLEIN & THE BLOOD CRISIS (6:00PM CT)

If you were told the majority of blood donors are middle aged white men, would you have made the connection that in a few years, America will face huge blood shortages and preventable deaths? Aviva Klein did, and at only 22 years old she created the University Blood Initiative, the only non-profit that ensures that young Americans and Americans of color are educated about, donating, and have access to an adequate, life-saving blood supply. During this interactive and personable event, you’ll learn two things: How to take action or create your own non-profit based on causes you’re passionate about and facts about blood that might make your blood run cold.
